Transport tank level indication system

SHIELD

See more. Haul safer. SHIELD gives a clear external visual indication of tank level using advanced radar sensing and a high-visibility LED light bar — helping prevent spills, overfills and run-dry events, and protecting people, equipment, product and the environment.

Product purpose

A tank that shows its own level.

SHIELD provides a clear, external visual indication of tank level using advanced radar sensing and high-visibility LED technology. Built for the demanding conditions of the transportation industry, it helps prevent spills, overfills and run-dry events — protecting people, equipment, product and the environment.

Designed for the demanding conditions of the transportation industry — vibration, weather and the realities of a working fleet — SHIELD turns a measurement into light on the shell, so the answer arrives before anyone has to climb or open an app.

Key features

What SHIELD does

  • Real-time tank level indication with an external LED light bar
  • Radar level sensor — no internal contact, highly reliable
  • 12/24 VDC operation, including a rugged DC-DC converter
  • Toggle switch to activate the LEDs, or auto-on via Wi-Fi connection
  • Configurable spill / overfill / empty setpoints in the mobile app
  • Sensor fault detection with flashing notification
  • Permanent or magnetic mounting options
  • Built for vibration, weather and industrial environments
  • Simple, plug-and-play installation

How it works

From radar reading to light on the shell

Radar sensor

Measures the product level inside the tank.

LED light bar

Provides a clear, real-time visual display.

Operator control

Via toggle switch or Wi-Fi connection — LEDs activate automatically when connected.

Alerts

Overfill, empty or sensor-fault states are shown with color-coded LED patterns.

Power

Runs on truck 12/24 VDC through the integrated converter.

Mobile app

Set the thresholds that matter

Configure spill, overfill and empty setpoints in the mobile app. Tank level is reported as a clear percentage, with normal, high-alarm, low-alarm and sensor-status states — and when the Wi-Fi connection is live, the LED light bar activates automatically.

  • Tank level shown as a live percentage
  • High-alarm and low-alarm setpoints you define
  • Sensor-status check with fault notification
  • Auto-on LEDs over Wi-Fi, or manual toggle switch

Color-coded LED patterns make level, alarm and fault states legible from the ground.

Problem scenarios

Four situations every operator recognises

The level nobody watched

A transfer runs slightly long. The level was available the whole time — on a screen in a building nobody was in.

The gauge you have to reach

The only way to answer a simple question is to put a person on a ladder, in weather, next to product.

The run-dry you did not see

A pump keeps running on an empty tank because nothing on the asset said stop.

The overfill in progress

Product approaches the top while the only warning sits two counties away on a dashboard.

Mounting
Permanent stainless brackets or heavy-duty magnetic mounts

Dimensions are typical values from the SHIELD one-sheet; the LED light bar is available in multiple lengths. Final configuration is confirmed for your application.

The intelligence layer

SHIELD readings become Signal Command intelligence.

GTT hardware does more than light up an asset on site. Level, valve and condition telemetry stream into Signal Command, a real-time, multi-domain intelligence platform — turning individual tanks, valves and pads into one connected, live operating picture.

GTT devices integrate with Signal Command. Specific data flows and dashboards are confirmed per deployment.

Questions

SHIELD, answered plainly

SHIELD is Global Tank Technologies' tank level indication system. It uses a non-contact radar sensor to measure product level and a high-visibility external LED light bar to show that level — plus overfill, empty and sensor-fault states — so the condition can be read at a glance from the ground and configured from a mobile app.

No. GTT is designed to work alongside the systems you already run. The objective is to make the information those systems hold more visible, more intuitive and more actionable — not to duplicate them.

Operators and field staff who need to read a condition quickly, and the safety, reliability and operations leaders who need a consistent picture across assets and sites.

SHIELD is intended for industrial storage across energy, water and wastewater, agriculture, chemical and processing, and general industrial infrastructure. Suitability for a specific tank type, product and site is confirmed during a consultation.

A large share of tank climbs exist to answer a simple question about level or condition. When that question can be answered from ground level or from a phone, the reason for that specific climb goes away. SHIELD is designed to reduce routine exposure, not to eliminate every reason a person accesses a tank.

It starts with a consultation covering your sites, assets and the conditions you most need visibility into. That conversation determines scope, configuration and the sequence of any deployment.

Detailed specifications, communications protocols, environmental ratings and integration options are confirmed directly with the GTT team for your application. Request a consultation and we will provide the documentation relevant to your site.
